A Simple History
1997 - 1999 Members of the permaculture community formed an organizing committee which met frequently over these three years and developed a business plan suitable to secure insurance of $100,000 per account from the National Credit Union Administration
May 18, 2000 Charter for the Permaculture Credit Union granted by the State of New Mexico, USA
August 15, 2000 PCU opened its doors for business.
April 1, 2001 PCU established loan program for savings secured and signature loans.
September, 2001 PCU established innovative loan programs for sustainability.
October, 2001 PCU became a million dollar financial institution when deposits into share savings accounts topped $1,000,000.
December 31, 2001 The PCU had just under $500,000 in assets loaned out to members.
December, 2002 PCU became a two million dollar financial institution when deposits into share savings accounts topped $2,000,000.
March, 2003 PCU Board hires Donald J. Sarich as full time President and CEO.
December, 2004 PCU has $1.9 Million out in loans of $2.8 Million in savings.
May, 2005 PCU celebrates its 5th year anniversary at the annual meeting.
September, 2006 PCU signs up its 1000th member.
